The
first thing I should note about the Faery Wisdom Deck is that it
is NOT a Tarot deck. It has been misadvertised as Tarot in various
places which ends up disappointing the end user when they have expected
to receive a Tarot deck when making their purchase. This is a faery
oracle containing 64 color cards featuring the lovely fairy art by Amy
Brown and text written by Amy's mother, Nancy Brown.
The
biggest criticism I have seen for this card set is in how gorgeous the
box is while the cards were produced in much lesser quality. I tend
to agree with that, as the cards are somewhat flimsy -- although not paper
thin either. But it does seem that the cards could have been created
from a higher quality cardstock in consideration of how beautiful the packaging
is for the cards and books.
I
am a great fan of Amy Brown's art! This was a reason that the Amy
Brown Faery Wisdom Deck was on my "must have" list of oracles.
I was aware that this was not a Tarot deck, but in fact, a fairy oracle.
So I did not meet with the disappointment that some had experienced when
thinking they were getting a Tarot oracle. It's always important
to carefully read reviews and information about a deck to be properly informed
prior to making card purchase. However, this deck has (in some places)
actually been mismarketed as a Tarot deck when it is actually a fairy oracle.
Being
a fan of Amy Brown's art, I definitely love the images on the cards and
how this oracle works. Nancy Brown did a wonderful job in presenting
the interpretations for each of the cards. My only personal criticism
is in how the text is very small -- and not only in the hardback book that
presents the meanings of the cards . . . but also on the back of the bookshelf
box packaging as well. Granted, I don't have perfect vision, and
fortunately, I have reading glasses to assist with small printed items.
But it appears that the print was intended to be this small to save space
(and probably to save money as well). I feel that the actual guidebook
could have been printed as a larger book, and thus, allowing for larger
print as well. The book measures 5 x 7. The cards themselves
measure approximately 3.375" x 5.75"and the bookshelf box that holds the
cards and guidebook is 7.25" x 9." Each card is given two pages,
and one full page presents a black and white image of the card with the
opposite page providing interpretive information for the card.
With
that said, I don't feel that these "criticisms" take away from the overall
quality and value of this deck presentation. I still love it!
But in writing reviews, I try to approach them objectively.
What
I really enjoy about the Faery Wisdom Deck is the real advice and wisdom
that Nancy Brown has presented in the accompanying book. This approach
takes us away from asking "if" something will happen. Instead, she
shows what we need to do in order to prepare for something or to help bring
what we want into our lives. In the book, she also presents a 6-card
Past-Present-Future reading which seems to work well with these cards to
point out situations, concepts, and lessons to be aware of from the past,
the present, and the future.
I
love Nancy Brown's philosophy, because it rings so true: "Always
remember . . . you are the author of your life story. You can create
it in any way that you choose. You can change the ending whenever
you want." This resonates with my belief
that we are masters of our own destinies. Fate doesn't just "happen"
to us . . . we create it through the freewill of our own choices, thoughts,
and actions. This is not to say that we can control anything and
anyone in our surroundings, but we can certainly control and choose our
own attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions. We can make our own choices
for that which is truly in our hands to control.
