Why should people have to pay for readings?
In
the course of my online business through the years, I have heard this question
many times. Why should I have to pay for a reading when it's a God-given
gift that should be freely shared?
Spirituality is "free," and like other talents, it is indeed a gift. Consider the gifts you have. You most likely have a job and apply your gifts, talents, time, and energy in the work you do. What if your employer wanted you to offer up your talents and gifts without payment? How would you pay your bills and put food on the table? The concept is the same for those of us who charge for readings.
My online work is my full-time job and sole source of income. If I were to render a free service to everyone who asked for it and believed that I am not worthy of receiving payment for a God-given gift . . . then eventually the service and my gifts would no longer be available. Eventually the utility company would see fit to turn off my electricity for lack of payment -- and thus, no internet service and no free readings for anyone . . . no readings period. I would be forced into looking for employment with someone who would pay me in order that I could meet my bills. Just like you and the rest of the world, I have a family, bills to pay, and groceries that must be bought to feed my loved ones.
Everyone has gifts of some kind. Art is a beautiful gift that is rendered and sold by many talented individuals. I would not dream of going into an art store or gallery and asking for a free painting just because of the fact that the artist has a God-given gift and it should therefore be free.
God is aware, that as human beings, we require food, shelter, clothing, and housing as our basic needs. We should not feel ashamed to ask for compensation for the work that we do. Perhaps some people have the idea that doing readings are quite easy and require no work at all. That is a serious misconception! Those who do readings of any kind know that it takes a lot of time and energy to do them! It is time taken away from family, loved ones, and personal leisure time in the same manner that your paying job takes your time from you.
There are free readings offered on the internet, but you must also keep in mind that you get what you pay for. Free is not much of a payment. Often free readings are done by those who are gaining experience in the art of reading -- whether they are reading with angel cards, tarot cards, or some other oracle. Years ago, I offered free readings to gain experience and practice in reading the Tarot cards. There was still an exchange here, although not a monetary one. I gave a reading in exchange for the experience. When it came to the point where the demand for readings was far greater than the supply of time and resources I had due to becoming such a popular reader on the free site I worked with . . . I knew it was time to take the next step and begin charging for my services.
I hope this article will clear up the reasons as to why readers do charge for their services. Perhaps the next time you hear someone complain about a God-given gift being charged for, you can at least smile and know in your own heart why this is the case . . . even if the complaining individual just can't get a clue.
